Our centre in Bangkok focuses on innovation in botanical and cellular research for broad applications while in Samut Prakarn we focus on skincare, haircare, perfumery, colour cosmetics and personal care products.

R&D Timeline

For over 4 decades, we have continually developed our research and innovation competencies to be on par with global cosmetics companies through foreign and local consultants, joint research programs and technological transfer from our business partners.

1984

To support the growing business, SSUP’s first factory was constructed in Bangplee Industrial Estate, Samutprakarn. Our R&D lab was set up as part of this factory, formulating mainly lipsticks, cleansers and toners.

Due to growth, the R&D department moves to a separate 400sqm building next to the factory. Skincare research and development is started at this time.

The R&D department grew in both scale and team size, thus it moved to a separate 400 sqm building adjacent to the factory. Skincare research and development was started during this period.

Research begins for developing Thai cosmetic herbal extracts under the guidance of top Thai university professors.

R&D moves to a new 1,200sqm, 5-storey building, is ISO9000 certified and is renamed The Institute of Beauty and Health Sciences. At this point, the Institute is able to formulate for every cosmetic and toiletry category.

The R&D department moved to a new 5 storey building, occupying an area of 1,200 sqm. It was renamed The Institute of Beauty and Health Sciences and was certified with ISO9000. At this time, the Institute has developed capabilities to formulate products for all cosmetics and toiletries categories.

The Skin and Hair Evaluation Centre (Global Scientific Services) is set up under the guidance of a dermatologist.

To uplift the R&D department’s capabilities to match global standards, we hire Japanese and French cosmetic scientists with experience in global beauty consultants.

SSUP collaborates with Nihon Emulsion and NOF Japan to develop CyPA^TM, a proprietary active skincare ingredient. We also collaborated with Givaudan to develop encapsulated perfumes for scented hairspray applications.

A new 1,600m sqm Research and Innovation Centre opens in Bangkok next to SSUP headquarters. It focuses on botanical extract and proprietary ingredient development.

A new Research & Innovation Center was opened in Bangkok next to SSUP Headquarter, occupying an area of 1,600 sqm. This center focuses on two areas of research: botanical extract development and proprietary active ingredients/ delivery system development. As of 2022, 126 high purity, standardized botanical extracts and 27 proprietary ingredients/ delivery technologies have been developed.

Applications

Hundreds of new formulas are produced each year in our laboratories for colour cosmetics, skincare, personal care, haircare and fragrance.

Every formula is tested for efficacy and safety on human volunteers – never on animals.
